Old Suffolk lore says winter aconites, Eranthis hyemalis, flourish where Roman blood was spilt. This lore perhaps came about because the green ruff around the flower recalls Roman pteruges, an armoured skirt made of leather strips. Pteruges comes from the Greek word for feathers.

Wandering our heartland I gathered a small constellation: snowdrop, primrose, daisy, aconite, dead-nettle, hazel, alder, cow parsley. Arranged in a circle, they formed a medicine wheel — not of knowing, but of noticing. Small wonders, gathered by noticing. #WildflowerHour
