I'm pleased to share my new website which details the services I'm offering to clients. I began working self-employed last year and I've already helped several organisations navigate complex issues in the Irish economy. davidwhiggins.ie
Even as a percentage of income, this reveals the challenge in aiming to squeeze more and more out of just one decile. You can only balance a budget with policy change in the middle deciles. E.g. Ireland 2009-14.
Only four in ten UK households make a net contribution to the state The richest households contribute £57k, the ninth decile £17k, and the eighth £11k. The poorest decile receives about £24k 1/4
Four Sunday papers purchased at 7.30am this morning. It can mean only one thing - @RadioBrendanRTE at 11am. 📻 Tune in if you're near a wireless.
Chaim Herzog was a good man who did a lot for Dublin & like many of our diaspora went on to achieve great things. He and I happened to go to the same school, his visit 30+ years ago is remembered fondly. Removing his name from a small park achieves nothing but hurt for many,
This person believes the park has been renamed. It hasn't yet actually. But nevermind that. See the kind of economic reaction it sparks? Ireland continues to play fire with our global reputation. Welcome push back tonight from @HMcEntee and @SimonHarrisTD.
Simply vile. @howardlutnick, when you are closing those loopholes that see 100bn ripped off from the USA to fund these Jihad lovers? x.com/Saul_Sadka/sta…
Well said @HMcEntee and @SimonHarrisTD. The far-left mask slips with ideas like this. Not just opposition to Israel today, but Israel ever. There's a word for denying Jewish self-determination...
I completely oppose plans to rename Herzog Park. It is wrong. We are an inclusive Republic. This proposal is offensive to that principle. I urge all Party Leaders to join me in opposition to this. I agree with the statement from @HMcEntee gov.ie/en/department-…
There should a tangible connection between @DublinAirport and any person bearing its name. Mary Robinson flew through DUB for many UN engagements abroad. What else? 🟤 Fitzgerald = Worked in Aer Lingus 🟤 Lemass = Industry & Commerce Minister
Interesting letter. It is correct more things should be named after women. There is already the Mary Robinson Centre in Ballina and the Mary McAleese Bridge, but there is nothing named after Seán Lemass. Also, the naming of Dublin Airport would reflect Lemass's role in pioneering…
And not to overlook Seán's role in setting up the Elections Ireland site, a great resource for all students of Irish elections. Huge amount of work went into this and into his many books on Irish elections, listed here: electionsireland.org/books.cfm
Very sorry to hear this. Seán was a dedicated public servant both through his ‘day job’ with Dublin City Council and his incisive election analyses, on broadcast media & his telephone directory-sized books of local election results. And a true gentleman away from the microphone.
I spent a lot of my teenage and college years on his website, electionsireland.org. Just browsing for trends in all kinds of election data. Political analysis was my gateway drug to economic analysis. Pity I never met this legend in person. RIP.
Both the US and UK have a housing crisis. But it is so, so much worse in Britain - and not just in London. Once you account for average incomes, the data is stark. (From @jburnmurdoch, as ever)
Happy Thanksgiving. We’ll never fly you there.
The silence on Sudan sadly reflects the reality of human attention. Max attention on Gaza for two full years means there's little left in the tank to care about a new conflict. Even if the human suffering is on par or worse.
Violence against women and girls is being used as a weapon of war in Sudan. The conflict has already taken more than 150,000 lives and forced over 12 million people from their homes.
Americans love St. Patrick's Day. I learnt this year while flying @SouthwestAir it's one of just four days when drinks on board are free 🍻 It's only fair we return some love. Wishing all Americans happiness and health today on their Thanksgiving Day 🦃
Love it!!
I was inspired by this post, so made one for Dublin! Super cool project.
another win for the EU 🇪🇺
Business network Dublin Chamber is calling on the Government to introduce emergency legislation to ensure that MetroLink "proceeds without further delay" rte.ie/news/ireland/2…
We are embarking on the largest capital plan in the history of the State (€275.4bn). If we’re going to spend unprecedented sums, we must also build unprecedented transparency. That means the State needs the ability to see procurement spend in near real time. (11/x)
Trying to get to Dublin Airport in 2032: - The Paul Murphy taxi app messed up your scheduled pickup - Metrolink has only just cleared its 8th judicial review
And the original terminal building was designed by his brother Desmond.
Wouldn't Garret Fitzgerald also be a deserving name? He worked in Aer Lingus in his 20s and two urban legends surround his time there: - He read old airline timetables for relaxation - They needed four executives and a computer to replace him
A bill to officially rename Dublin Airport after former taoiseach Seán Lemass has been moved to a second stage rte.ie/news/2025/1125…
