#IronVizDiaries: Nov 13 - tonight, I'm working on a lot of calculations and parameter actions. The ones I thought would be difficult have turned out to be really easy. The ones I was really confident about....not so much.
#IronVizDiaries: Nov 12 - Late last night, later than I should have been up, I made a decision to do something divisive with my #IronViz entry. In the light of day, I still think it's the right call, but I suspect it's going to spark some passionate disagreements.
#IronVizDiaries: Nov 11 - The story is tight and I am LOVING this viz. I don't want to jinx myself, and I'm ridiculously time blind, as well as perfectionistic .... but I THINK this might have the potential to be the first #IronViz entry I submit a few days early.
#IronVizDiaries: Nov 10 - Today, I took a break from working on #IronViz. Small amounts of time squeezed in around other things doesn't tend to be well spent! But tomorrow is a new day, with no conflicting responsibilities in it.
#IronVizDiaries: Nov 9 - Today I added some magic to my #IronViz entry. This functionality inspired my topic, yet I've procrastinated on bringing it to life. To ensure the story was solid. To hone the design details. To avoid potential failure...But it didn't fail and it's epic
#IronVizDiaries: Nov 8 - I'm making progress. It's not fast, but it's steady, and I'm going to bed on time!
#IronVizDiaries: Nov 6 - colours and copy are my focus tonight. I'm pleased with how the story is coming together, but the colour scheme feels ... bleh. Yet I don't think my go-to palette is right either. How do you choose your colour scheme #datafam?
#IronVizDiaries: Nov 4 - I know it's Nov 5, but I posted for Nov 5 yesterday, so today I'm posting for Nov 4 today to fix it. And that's a pretty good indication of how things are going!
#IronVizDiaries: Nov 5 - took an #IronViz tip from @Westlake_CJW's series today: @LisaTrescott says "prioritise the story". I took a step back, found the narrative flow, removed a chart, and made a plan to add something elsewhere to tell the story better. Thanks guys!!
#IronVizDiaries: Nov 3 - Today was one of those days that didn't feel like I got much done, but on reflection, I seem to have achieved plenty. Hopefully, everyone else in the #datafam is making good #IronViz progress.
#IronVizDiaries: Nov 2 - Sometimes, when one part of a project gets tricky, moving on to an easier task helps maintain progress. And sometimes that progress lets you see a better destination.
#IronVizDiaries: Nov 1 - getting to the juicy part now - literally and figuratively! A couple of big wins with data prep, followed by a few challenges, such as answering the question "what are you even trying to do here?" It seemed so obvious until I tried to code it!
#IronVizDiaries: Oct 31 - I filled in, downloaded and then lost the kids' excursion permission forms. I eventually found them in the My Tableau Repository\Datasources folder. Could've happened to anyone!
#IronVizDiaries: Oct 29 - now for manual data entry. It's easy to be critical about data quality as an analyst, but it's hard to be enthusiastic when actually entering the data in. Though it might be different if I wasn't typing JSON into Notepad++
#IronVizDiaries: Oct 28 - I'm clearly being too perfectionistic about the wording of my opening text for this stage of the game. Gotta sort out the anchor charts first!!
#IronVizDiaries: Oct 27 - Saw a comment from one of my LinkedIn connections and nearly replied "that's my topic for #IronViz!" ... until I realised it was a work colleague and I'd then have to explain what Iron Viz was. But when you focus on a topic, you see it everywhere!
#IronVizDiaries: Oct 26 - Things are taking shape! I'd like to be able to outline that shape, but map layers is getting the better of me. So I'm going to take my own advice and get some sleep!
#IronVizDiaries: Oct 25 - Must try harder to stay out of the rabbit holes! Especially the fake ones that lead nowhere - what my mother calls "bunny brain bashers," because if you go down them in a hurry, the abrupt stop will leave you concussed.
