okay but how about a tech conference, but you get rid of the tech part and everyone brings a dog instead

To be a dev you... do NOT need to be a keyboard nerd do NOT need to be macho/bro'y/tomboy do NOT need to have a side project do NOT have to play with servers in your free time  do NOT have to be obsessed with gaming

Quick punctuation lesson: Hyphen (-): connects two words En-dash (–): indicates a range, e.g. 2–8 Em-dash (—): Ahhh, you seek to understand its ways, weary traveler. Nay, behold! This dash provides to you whichever function you most require. You need only listen as it whispers…

The hardest problem in Computer Science is syncing your personal calendar to your work calendar.

So many opinions on 10x engineers. Wish y'all were as vocal when it came to inclusion in tech and pay inequality.

I havent reversed a linked list, built map reduce from scratch, or used dynamic programming to solve TSP at my current job as of yet. When do I get to do all these things that were promised when we were in front of the whiteboard?

Son: Hey dad, want go over regular expressions with me? Me: No, not really. (I always need a cheat sheet for the rare times I need to do anything non-trivial with RE)

A dinosaur so Chicagoan, it won a bike by hitting the sixth bucket on the Bozo Show.

Sean met Connie for the first time yesterday, when she came to our live @swiftovercoffee podcast. When he heard she was doing so much with so little he did something amazing – this is what it looks like to make a massive difference to someone's future 🌟

No ticket to WWDC, so I put that💰to better use. Connie is already a talented programmer at 10 years old, but has to code on a borrowed 2011 MacBook Air. There’s much more to her story, but she’s immensely derserving. Enjoy the new MacBook Pro. I hope you build amazing things. 👩🏼‍💻

I've spent ~20 hours writing a build tool to turn a pile of TypeScript into a JavaScript bundle loadable in web browsers. I now understand a lot of the issues that make JavaScript builds difficult. It is an utter mess and I don't see any path out of it. Mostly I am now tired.

Browsers make multi-threaded requests concurrently to talk to single threaded web frameworks who talk to single threaded in-memory caches who talk do multi-threaded DBs. MINIMUM 4 replicas of data spread across 3 TCP connections so that a single threaded JS func can loop data.

I had some code implemented and fully tested, almost ready to release. Then I was writing the documentation for it, and I realized the code's behavior is wrong and should be changed. TDD wouldn't have saved me here. Docs are equally as important as tests in designing software.

You can measure one’s disconnect from reality by their excitement for design patterns.
