The NYT ATC article is wildly accurate with regards to our all time staffing crisis, but my only gripe remains that I’ve worked in two different facilities and I have yet to hear anyone refer to our common watch schedule (2 nights, 2 days, and an overnight) as “the rattler.”

On my redeye, I decided to ask every sector of every center (19 in all) if it was true they were working 6 days a week & couldn’t get “spot” leave. How many said yes? Except for a Ground controller… EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. The FAA has BIG problems heading into Summer… 1/5
Been feeling like an outsider this whole week for a bunch of reasons. Then a dude saw my shoes and tried to buy them from me on the spot and I suddenly felt like I belonged.
Here’s how I operate: Sleep shitty (kids, puppy, shift work, etc), consume inordinate amounts of caffeine to power through the day, so much so that then I can’t sleep again that night. Repeat. This is my peak final form.

I got three reports in a row this morning between 4 and 4:30am of…listen, I don’t wanna say aliens…but unidentified moving lights in the sky. Same area, up real high, and it was not orbital in motion. There was nothing on the radar. Heads on a swivel, pilot friends.
Honestly, if it keeps him off the broadcast, lfg.
