Archaeological interpretation is the consequence of all available data, considering every known source to create a narrative. While in contrast pseudoarchaeology usually starts with a narrative, incorporating fitting sources, but leaves out what does not support this narrative.

Long time no #Pompeii news, right? 😉 This time it's the discovery of a "waiting room" outside the "Villa of the Mysteries", where client would wait for an appointment with the "dominus", the master and wealthy patron of the house: archaeology.org/news/2025/09/3…

Although fieldwork at #Göbeklitepe is closing down, this doesn’t mean that work stops. We’ll be assessing data, preparing papers, and planning for 2026. All part of a responsible research process. We also have a #TaşTepeler exhibition in Berlin to look forward to. Exciting times

Jens Notroff's magnificent drawings again ✨️

This can be even extended, since apparently in #PPN iconography almost all animals seem to have been depicted as encountered by humans in the wild: large animals (like e.g. boars and birds) in side view, smaller ones (snakes, scorpions, other insects) in top view.

Serious question: What's "civilization"? 🤔

If civilization really began 6,000 years ago… then Göbekli Tepe shouldn’t exist.
