It’s been said before but Yan Diomande was playing in the UPSL less than two years ago. For perspective, that is like going from the Isthmian South Central Division to the Bundesliga in 18 months.
Apologies for boasting but I am currently ranked in the top 0.1% of FPL players. Posting this now because it’s unlikely I remain here at the end of the season.
San Diego FC in the MLS scoring from a Paralela Cheia/Tilt All 10 outfield players are ball orientated + defensive diagonal Using outside diagonal ladder as a means of short distance circulation- the far side CB is deeper Great to see more stuff like this breakthrough!
SDFC right-sided attacking tilt. Constant theme throughout - primary team intention. Sometimes with both CBs in the wide channel. Good counter-pressing access. Lacked some threat without a 2nd dribbler nearby. Goal eventually came from this zone after dozens of these situations.
I was at San Diego FC vs Minnesota United last night. Manu Duah — Top athlete and good problem-solver, could add more disguise to his play. CB that stays home for all set pieces, you can infer a lot about his profile from just that #scoutingcue. Exactly a year since his last…

🥂Celebrating 28 long years today. The journey continues.
What happens when you analyse a tactical system from a different perspective? Wirtz turns into a left back? Woltemade's 9 gets flipped to become a 6? Numbers lose their meanings. It's all possible in the context of Julian Nagelsmann's extreme diagonality 🇩🇪↗️↘️↙️↖️
It seems like more and more people are beginning to draw parallels between the football and tech industries. Exciting time for me with years of experience in both domains. Probably a good time to integrate both of my personas on here and document my insights and learnings.
Football clubs can learn a lot about recruitment from tech companies. Player and staff recruitment should be people first, role second. As a club/organization, you want to recruit the best people (A players). But A players are A players because they are unique,…
This captures a core flaw I see in recruitment strategies built on highly specific player profiling. It treats players as static quality: predictable, definable, box-shaped. But players are human and therefore of dynamic quality: unpredictable, undefinable, shape-shifting.

Recommended listen for anyone in the business of recruiting people. Tons of gems in here, filled with heuristics that apply across domains.

Book I’ve been reading recently. Writing is an extremely high-leverage skill that I've come to realize I have not put enough deliberate practice into. Developing, synthesizing, and transmitting ideas and info are fundamental in any domain. Time for more practice.
"A process cannot be understood by stopping it. Understanding must move with the flow of the process, must join it and flow with it." A complex adaptive system cannot be fully understood from the outside looking in. Understanding comes from inside the system's interactions.
The next generation of football analysts will learn to understand the complex and dynamic reality of the game rather than accepting reductive oversimplifications. Technical skill is only a fraction of each player interaction. Evaluating players solely based on what is visible…

The cool thing about football analysis is there are unlimited ways to perceive and explain the exact same thing. But all are equally wrong. And equally correct.
