This is a big issue; it's not just about being close together. It's about the manner in which the players are interpreting and collaborating. I think it's important to make training sessions that facilitate the development of intuitive, expressive problem-solving.

A grande questão não é mais se os três jogadores estarão no mesmo lado do campo, mas se será incentivado brotar e adubar inesperadas relações socioafetivas entre eles ou se eles irão basicamente reproduzir um jogo decorado.

Great teams consist of players like this that deeply understand their teammates' specific qualities. These players create synergy. The challenge is identifying them and creating a meta-stable environment for them to build connections.

This is a great thread that describes the differences between "scouts" that create content and scouts that create actual value.

It is still so common to see people mistake experience for knowledge. Experience is simply an opportunity to learn and build knowledge. There are plenty of people with high level experience who simply haven't taken the opportunity to learn from it.

Improving strengths rather than weaknesses is key to self-development, but narrowing expertise into a single intersection of skill & context presumes that intersection remains relevant as the world changes, which is why development is the art of preparing for an uncertain future.

Another side to the coin: Heightened perception of each teammate's qualities is key to producing synergetic effects in a high performing team, but it does not imply that low churn is always the best squad-building strategy. Some players simply don't have the capacity to…

At Target Scouting, we take pride in the reputation we have established over the years, as many of our writers have secured professional scouting roles within the football industry. With this page, we aim to showcase some examples of the success stories of our former writers 👇

The underlying logic here is: - Limiting a player's decision-making autonomy with prescribed spaces and solutions gives them freedom. - It's better for the team to attack in a predictable way that avoids chaos (unpredictability). Not to nitpick but this seems flawed, no?

“How do you balance positional play with freedom, it must be tough.” Maresca: “It’s not true… if the freedom for you is that you can move everywhere, that is not freedom, that is chaos.”

A tangible benefit to a player's "aesthetic" (how fluid/effortless they look on the ball) –– opponents are less inclined to pressure a player that looks confident and in control. Discomfort is a pressing trigger. Regardless of the execution, a relaxed aura grants time & space.

In this weeks @iDiskiTimes article I had the great pleasure of interviewing the highly knowledgeable @Yiannis_Tsala who recently visited us at SV Ried. In this special 2 part series Yiammis shares a lot of great insight that coaches will benefit from.

Recruitment is the single most important thing in football, at all levels. Recruitment of players and recruitment in staffing. Everything else is downstream from that. When clubs begin to struggle or aren't succeeding, look first to the hires. Don't always agree on…

Fulham getting Kevin from Shakhtar seems like a home run signing. Fulham sneakily run a high level recruitment operation. Leadership stability also a factor.

Maybe I’m missing something. Who uses 3 subs to fix the team after a red card? What happens at 75 minutes when everyone is exhausted and you’re chasing the game?

Jason Ayto is said to be an internal team and process builder. Big hire for Brighton to evolve their recruitment.

Jason Ayto has joined the club as sporting director, and will take up the position with immediate effect. 🤝
