School staff shouldn't have to scrabble around or spend their own money to get hold of new books and reading material for children. Dedicated money needs to be set aside by the government, just like it is for the PE and sport premium. It matters far too much to be left to chance.

We've taken part in @poetrybyheart's competition for the past few years and our pupils have always had a great time. It's a fantastic way to raise the profile of poetry and help children grow in confidence. There's still plenty of time to take part. poetrybyheart.org.uk
You have 10 half hour sessions to read one book to a group of year 5 reluctant reader boys who are going to follow along in the text. Need to grip and inspire them. Book needs to be finished in those 5 hrs including chat time. Which book do you choose? #amreading @jonnybid pls RT
If you're after a Christmas picturebook that will be adored from Reception to Year 6, you can't go wrong with How Does Santa Go Down the Chimney? by Mac Barnett and Jon Klassen. Funny, surreal and extremely entertaining.

Inspirational day at the @EmpathyLabUK conference. Listening to researchers, authors, teachers, publishers and librarians talk about the importance of empathy and its links to reading reinforced how important Empathy Day is going to be for schools in the National Year of Reading.
