🔬 Thanks to our Amgen scientists for speaking with members of Congress this week about building a better policy environment that encourages innovation and supports timely patient access to new medicines. #PhRMAFlyIn24
Over a decade, research abstracts/papers in residency applications have increased 2-3x!! No one wins in this kind of "arms race" 👎👎👎 Average applicant abstract/papers by specialty: Neurosurg: 24 Derm: 19 Rad Onc: 18 by @Abdul_K_Ahmed @eadashi jamanetwork.com/journals/jamas…
Five years? I think I'm pretty open minded on drug price negotiation but that is just bonkers. Vertex got Kalydeco approved in 2012. 2017 was their first year of profitability. Basically nothing would get an ROI anymore.
Biden wants a big expansion for drug negotiations in his budget: Double number of drugs Medicare would negotiate in 2026 (to 20 from 10) and then bring it up to 40 each year. Also proposing to shorten timeline for exemption to five years for all drugs. h/t @MedResJourno

A rant about one of the biggest disincentives to teaching in academic medicine -- the required paperwork, which is OUT OF CONTROL. Solutions to this quagmire welcome. Latest: blogs.jwatch.org/hiv-id-observa…
Filling out a childcare release for my son. Strange that they ask permission to do CPR (I mean what 7 yo is DNR/DNI) and even stranger that it's considered "minor" first aid and grouped with hand sanitizer and ice packs
I am appalled at the clickbait in the @WashingtonPost detailing a clinical research participant's past life. Medicine is not a justice system and medical research volunteers shouldn't have their lives exposed for the world to judge. washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2022/…
Plenary at #ash21. Amazing data for hemophilia and even the plenary speaker agrees that investigators should not report the same AE with 3 terms. Your sponsor thanks you!. #datacleaningispainful
The rush to report results in science & medicine does net harm to #publichealth. I said what I said. #MedTwitter #SciComm
In Dec '01, one guy tried--& failed-- to set off explosives he had hidden in his shoes. Almost 2 decades later, we're all still removing our shoes at US airports. The #COVID19 virus has infected >20M in the US, killing 1 of every 58 who tested +. There's no nat'l #MaskUp policy.
Clinical trials are often the most promising option in cancer. Medicaid, which disproportionately covers minority & rural populations, is the only major payor that doesn't cover routine trial costs. Close the coverage gap, reduce disparities, and improve care! #ASCOAdvocacySummit
1/ Covid (@UCSF) Chronicles, Day 150 Today, 150 days since I began my Covid tweets, I’m going to do something odd: write the speech that Trump should give. I have no faith he’ll do so, but it’s worth recognizing how little it would take to change course & save lives. Here goes:
Thrilled to join Cyteir Therapeutics to develop next-generation synthetic lethality and DDR therapeutics including CYT-0851, a first-in-class RAD51 inhibitor, to improve treatments for #Cancer patients. #clinicaltrials #cancerresearch #biotech prnewswire.com/news-releases/…
Drug Study Halted Early for Certain Covid-19 Patients After No Benefit Seen - WSJ “If study didn’t have a placebo group, it may have looked as though drug was helping patients recover, though they would have even without treatment, Dr. Yancopoulos said.” wsj.com/articles/drug-…
CDC reports that in less than 2 months, we have seen 27 health care personnel die, 184 end up in the ICU and 723 hospitalized due to occupational exposure to Covid-19 and that these are likely an underreporting. We must protect our HCP better. cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/6…
HELP! I have a family member in Orange County, CA on a vent in critical condition for #COVID19. We are urgently seeking a person who has recovered from #coronavirus infxn w/ no symptoms in past 14d & able to donate plasma asap. Irvine/Tustin or LA area. DM me w/ leads. Pls RT.
In Italy, >4,000 medical staff have been infected by #coronavirus. At least 18 doctors have died from #COVID19, including several came out of retirement to help. "Heroes don't fall from the sky. They're just ordinary people who bravely stepped forward." 🕯RIP Heroes 🙏
Serious proposal: what if we repurposed emissions inspection stations for #COVID19 #coronavirus testing? Already built, present in every state, usual work could be postponed, easy to identify them online, already set up to test something while ppl stay in cars. Talk me out of it.
We need 🇺🇸 drive-thru stations for #coronavirus #COVID19 testing built now: 👉These pts will otherwise flood ERs. That’s bad for wait times & quality of care, virus containment, & will carry major #financialtoxicity. 👉The 🇺🇸 is already a car culture & a drive-thru culture.
They don't mention that every prospective metformin trial in cancer has been negative, all the "cured" pts were also on standard therapy, and dog deworming pills will not cure your lung cancer. Repurpose sure but still have to prove things work in clinical trials!
Complicated issues here on appropriate off-label use of drugs for cancer vs. drug use that should be conducted safely on clinical trials. nytimes.com/2020/02/25/opi…
Incredibly sad to see these numbers...💔💔💔 China disclosed today that 1,716 medical workers have contracted the #coronavirus and 6 of them have died of #COVID19 reuters.com/article/us-chi… Among the 1716 infected, 1502 from epicenter Hubei Province, 1102 of which from #Wuhan City
JAMA paper basically corroborates the depressing stat that >500 healthcare workers been infected by #coronavirus in #Wuhan alone My heart goes out to all these heroes who put their lives at risk fighting at frontline! Remember these angels' marks! 🙏🙏🙏
