At one point China was humanities focused, at which point Westerners came in and forced it to become Hamsterdam at the end of superior gun barrels.

Feels like China is an experiment in building a nation where the humanities are dead or fully subsumed by STEM. Little understanding of what human beings actually need and want now or in the long term, but lots of impressive technical capabilities and building today.

12% of the US are on SNAP, new college grad hiring anemic, and 14% of women 18-24 are on Onlyfans yet people are convinced low TFR is an issue because of a shrinking labor force.

Chinese cities are nice and the standard of living isn’t terrible but the country is defined by grinding status competition, especially amongst the younger gen, to an extent that I don’t think Americans will ever understand.

China is 100% China inside China. China will need to learn that the world is not 100% China outside of China. The USA isn't 100% USA inside the USA. We have China here. We have Taiwan here. There are cities areas in USA where all the signs are in Chinese and everyone speaks…

You think RMB is artificially suppressed but also believe Chinese GDP is overstated by 50%. lol.

今天跟我妈打电话,说到中国经济...... 老太太说,你说中国经济不好,那英国经济还不好呢......全世界经济也不好呢...... 然后又开始她的老生常谈,大不了穷,咱们又不是没穷过......…

Literally God of Gamblers.

I have very different view. Falling TFR in developed world is what is preventing massive resources wars between industrialized powers right now.

Objectively I am mega-bearish on America, Europe, and China equally. I currently do not see any of them reversing the demographic and thus permanent decline of techno-industrial civilization, which will likely play out by 2100. All other discussion is just details until then.

lol. You call yourself "LindyMan." "The Lindy effect proposes the longer a period something has survived to exist or be used in the present, the longer its remaining life expectancy." How long has "Chinese art, literature, culture and life" been around? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lindy_eff…

It’s not often you have a theory that everyone else disagrees with. Mine is that the One Child Policy implemented in China in 1980s was the greatest policy and responsible for both the rapid economic rise as well as low crime rates and social order of today.

It’s amusing that East Asians are the last line of defense for keeping alive classical western culture..

The millennial generation might be the last one that grew up with any knowledge of classical music. Even then, it was weird and rare, but it’s only become truly dire in the last 20 years or so. Piano sales have been in decline in the US for decades, something like 17,000 sold…

It’s hilarious when people who can’t predict the level of the S&P 500 a year from now thinks they can forecast Chinese pppulation 75 years out.

By 2100, the medium estimate is that China loses about 600 million people. In worst case they lose about 900 million. Really feels like GDP growth is over

Nobody wants flying cars.

We wanted flying cars all we got were AI pair programmers

Maybe Southern states should stop celebrating Juneteenth.

Greetings from Taiwan, where the KMT -- the party that actually led the fight against the invading Japanese army in China during World War II -- still exists. The CCP assisted the KMT during the war, but the CCP did not lead the fight.

No, my logic is examining the actual real economics of the modern world and clearly observing that what we presently have in almost every country, even those currently undergoing population decline, is a massive labor *excess*

Generally, your logic is akin to looking at Victorian England paupers and ask "how do we get rid of all this people?" Instead of asking "how do we balance economy so they could be both productive workers and consumers?" I highly doubt they are intrinsically unemployable.

It’s pretty straightforward to think of Thiel as a powerful wizard trying to achieve lichdom.

Peter Thiel vs. The New York Times

By that metric, I guess you side with imperial Japan over the US in WW2.

If you do not know which side to pick, consider this. Israel hit military sites in Iran. Iran hit civilians in Tel Aviv. It is good VS evil, and there is no gray area.

Looks like your average American frat initiation.

You know how you're horrified when you see this, because that part of your brain that empathizes across species barriers is screaming in sympathetic agony? Yeah the Chinese don't have that part of the brain.

One child policy.

I grew up in 1980s China when GDP of China and India were abt the same. Today China's economy is nearly 5 times that of India. What happened?

What’s the deal with people using k*lled instead of killed and sh*t instead of shot and ch*ked instead of choked?
