Emacs News, Commands, Tips and Tricks

A question for some of my recent followers: why do you like Emacs? @jcorbin_dev @rootis0 @thebsdguy @PGMiedema @troydwill

Hard to imagine interfacing with Emacs like this.

afaik i'm the only one with an actually smart TV here's a demo of full computer use with just a remote, sitting on a couch. i can even get work done while chasing a toddler lmao reply below if you want to be a beta tester & i'll send you the download (mac only) - everything…

How's the job market these days?

I frequently split Emacs frames into multiple windows by using C-x 2 or C-x 3 to view multiple buffers simultaneously. Alternatively, C-x 5 2 will create a new and separate frame. Those of you who prefer multiple frames to windows - what's the reason?

The org- , magit- , mo- , djcb- , etc.. prefixes in Emacs Lisp functions aren't just a solution to a global namespace. It turns your .emacs file into a digital family tree, where each prefix is a record of a developer or community member whose work has shaped your own.

C-h k <keybindings> will show you what command <keybinding> is mapped to, followed by a brief explanation of that command.

C-x r r quick tell us what that does!

M-l converts the following word to lower case. M-u converts to upper case. M-c Capitalizes the following word.

it’s okay if you don’t know every emacs command. Even the pros still stumble upon new commands from time to time, that’s half the fun.

Is it Friday yet?

Emacs, and Lisp in general, was not intended for the average. paulgraham.com/avg.html

emacs kill ring is already great, but I find when I have like 3 different things (more than 2) to copy and paste, registers are irreplaceable. don't cut & paste into a document over and over. use registers!

And an f1 car is complex compared to a family sedan.

vscode is simple. period. neovim, emacs, or whatever other non-vscode editor is more complex. and i'm not biased. why do you think people who get into programming nowadays start with vscode?

I use org-mode TODO items (headlines) every day to track tasks. I forgot about Checkboxes until today. I love their flexibility, with 3 different states orgmode.org/manual/Checkbo… #GettingThingsDone in #emacs ! 💪
