Things I cannot do as a teacher: be more entertaining than the apps on their phones.

Things I can do as a teacher: show young people how their passions+skills can unlock opportunities and whole careers.

Things I cannot do as a teacher: justify having kids or even a dog at home because the job takes up too much time.

Things I can do as a teacher: impact the lives of 150+ young people every year.

Things I cannot do as a teacher: continue teaching without paying thousands of dollars to continue teaching.

If you are a decision maker in your school district, stop having trainings to ‘help’ teachers build more resilience and perseverance. So insulting! Instead, remove tasks from their already full plate! #EdChat

And a principal should never end a conversation with a teacher who reports exhaustion with "thank you for your enthusiasm."

Teachers shouldn't have to cover classes, give up planning time, work 20 extra hours a week, take on extra tasks, etc. just to be considered an effective teacher or all in. Teachers give above and beyond already without it becoming the expectation. It's why so many are burned out

Worked at least 20 hours this weekend (closer to 24), got paid for 4 hours. This is on top of working 60-70+ hours Monday-Friday, paid for 36. #teacherlife #edchat

I worked at least 75 hours this past week. I got paid for about 35. #teacherlife

Feeling woefully under-prepared to teach both my Ukrainian and my Russian students tomorrow. I have my regular lessons planned, but not prepped because acting like everything is normal doesn't sit right with me atm.

Went back to my undergrad Minecraft roots while stuck a home for quarantine. Now I can teach virtually fromm home! youtu.be/VtLRC18tYww #MinecraftEDU #EnglishEducraft

"your nose is where the COVID grows" "please cover your face-holes" "don't spew your COVID particles everywhere for other people to suck in" "do you have people you care about? Then don't bring COVID home to them" "that was a close one, you almost gave me COVID" ...my repertoire

I think my nose will be flat by the end of this school year if I don't find another non-verbal signal to students to put their masks on properly over their noses. Any ideas for nonverbal signals?

Love, love, love teaching in-person. That doesn't change the fact that I'm in a high school-sized petri dish with 1.5k+ fellow incubators racing to see who can develop the first vaccine-immune COVID variant.

After practicing and pre-writing with 5W's and showing autobio exemplars, I asked my 9th graders to write at least 2 autobiographical paragraphs. Planned four 20-minute writing/revision sessions. After the 1st session, many already wrote 4 paragraphs, haha!

Sometimes I muse, "If I work 14 hours a day, 6-7 days a week, then I could do even more for my students than this meager 10-12 hours a day."

In order to keep as many Pennsylvanians as possible safe, schools will remain closed for the rest of the academic year. Special thank you to everyone who is doing their part to ensure our kids continue to learn and grow, even during these tough times.

I am developing differentiated 7th grade ELA and Social Studies lessons on Google Classroom for the coming weeks for students who only have gaming consoles & smartphones at home. Anything you can throw my way would be greatly appreciated! #edchat #edtechchat #sschat #engchat
