Super cool and valuable Ozark fire history video by Denise Henderson Vaughn, including helpful context for the very (very) freq fire shown in shortleaf pine scar records from the region. @oakfirescience @FireScienceGOV

Unloading fire scars on #firescarfriday, great way to wrap up an awesome/incredible week of sampling #shortleafpine in the Missouri Ozarks!
Stoked to run into this monster Sierra Nevada ponderosa pine (#firescarfriday)this week, with cool (multiple episodes?) modifications as a bonus. Note the notepad for scale 👀
What is your fav flower for backyard pollinator gardens, and why is it liatris?
Hey, I know this guy! @yockfire
Fantastic contribution by Bryan Yockers -an Oklahoma school teacher committed to teaching students the role of fire in sustaining ecosystem services. Students actually do experimental burns on campus! 🔥Inspiring way to link science-society @FireintheEarth1
munewsarchives.missouri.edu/news-releases/… Have you heard of the infamous 'New England Dark Day' of 1780? Smart colleagues of mine used tree rings to shed light on this mystery, in an article from 2008- maybe even more relevant today.
Our lab has non-fire history work in the northern CA woods this summer, but we’re constantly running into awesome fire scarred remnants like this one. I must admit to being a little relieved to not have to collect this giant, even on a #firescarfriday 😂 @kyle_rolfes
Nope-rope (western ratsnake, right?) warning me (very successfully) with a cool faux rattle today while mushroom hunting. A likely sign, along with numerous ticks, that the season is wrapping up.
Flagging and tagging fire scars IRL on #FireScarsFriday, a rare treat! #centralAppalachiansRock! and #wherewasntfrequentfire?
What’s the best time of year to be in the woods, and why is it early-spring for you?
