An initial meeting of @NationalHways Stakeholder Advisory Forum was held on Friday. It's a step in the right direction and some positive moves emerged. But there was absolutely no contrition over Gt Musgrave bridge which they now claim could cost £431K to rehabilitate for reuse!!
Drawings for @NationalHways #BarcombeBridge infill scheme - which involves cutting down six mature trees - show it to be similar in design to #GreatMusgraveBridge, but bigger in scale because the structure was built for two tracks, not one. #EnvironmentalVandalism
The old railway beneath #BarcombeBridge is an ecologically sensitive habitat, with rare flora and fauna, nightingales, bats and ancient woodland. So what should @NationalHways do with the structure: encase it in 1,000t of aggregate and concrete, or carry out sympathetic repairs?

We have written to @sdnpa, asking planners to confirm that they have consented to @HighwaysEngland infilling Stoke Road bridge, Itchen Stoke, under PD powers - as recently reported in #LiphookHerald - despite the structure being needed for @WatercressWay. @CycleWin @SouthDownsSoc

Well, this feels quite big. @DailyMailUK reports that @BorisJohnson @grantshapps will today announce that @HighwaysEngland bridge infilling programme is being paused, pending a proper review of the affected structures' value. We'll see what the day brings. dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9…
Stoke Rd bridge is earmarked for reuse as part of #TheWatercressWay. @HighwaysEngland has not assessed its capacity, but claims it is in "a distressed condition". @sdnpa told them infilling requires "the submission of a planning application", but they're progressing under PD.
