Ghostty is now a non-profit project, fiscally sponsored by Hack Club. mitchellh.com/writing/ghostt… I view terminals as critical infrastructure that should be stewarded by a mission-driven, non-commercial entity that prioritizes public benefit over profit. Ghostty is now that.

In my experience of life across personal, professional, and open source, I’m amazed at how many people kind of wait for things to happen to them instead of going out and making things happen for them. It’s a consistent difference between a certain level of success (not just…

Oh wow, an xterm.js-compatible libghostty-powered terminal for the browser via a zero dep 400KB wasm blob. Looks like early work is focusing on compatible, but curious what performance looks like given we haven't tried to optimize that at all for wasm. github.com/coder/ghostty-…

As promised, the Ghostty search UI for GTK is on the way (PR is open). There's polish to do, but it's fully functional. For those who haven't paid attention, the macOS app (in tip) already has this.

I’m very excited to share that my wife is pregnant with our 2nd kid! Just past the 1st tri and hoping for a healthy and successful pregnancy but really excited to grow our family and give my daughter a little brother (it’s a boy!).

I want more apps to preload web content for me. The X embedded browser is so nice in this regard. I feel like Apple with their private relay is really well positioned to do this at an OS layer while preserving privacy.

LA looking incredible for Thanksgiving this year. Love living here.

Pro tip for search users on Ghostty tip: if you experience any bugs or performance issues, close the search view (click "x", command palette, escape, plenty of ways). When the search view is closed, all resources associated with search are stopped and freed throughout Ghostty.…

A little devlog video, status update, feature tour of the search feature on macOS, wherein I also show (and also discover live) some of the quirks of the way other terminals do search.

Well, it has happened. Ghostty on macOS now has search. This is now in tip releases, I'm certain there's a bunch of polish and bugs to work through over the next months, but more than enough time for it to be rock solid for 1.3 next year. GTK to follow soon. Gobble, gobble. 🦃🦃

Getting closer now. Navigable search results are now in. The last hard problem is done. I'm now starting the macOS GUI for all of this (GTK will follow).

I'm not even joking I went to this ~300 person wedding last weekend, I'm in a sparkly tux, the music is on, dancing is starting, someone comes up to me and whispers in my ear "if you're here, it means Ghostty still doesn't have search" and walks off. Oh no! 🤣

We recently got access to a 4 GB dump of real terminal sessions (all public), and we've been extracting measurements from it for Ghostty so we can optimize real world distributions of terminal escape sequences rather than synthetic benchmarks. So many positive results, read on!…
