Seeing lots of discussion on here about Red Toryism in the wake of the D'Entremont crossing. It is exposing many of you who don't know what Red Toryism is, including, apparently, D'Entremont himself. If you think Red Tories are just left-leaning centrists caught up in the wrong…

The original mandatory minimum was passed in 2005 by Paul Martin (a Liberal) in bill C-2. It was for 45 days. I can only wish that the CPC was competent enough to psyop a Liberal PM into imposing the minimum so that a CPC MP could stand 20 years later to call it disgusting.

What's disgusting and egregious is the way people like you are attacking the SCC for something that the Conservatives enacted, presumably for the purpose of having this happen. Do better: linkedin.com/posts/peter-sa…

Uneasy about the consequences for Alberta of a looming referendum on independence but find it hard to articulate the reasons why? My long read in today’s @nationalpost was written with you in mind! And a bonus: while I argue an independence referendum is a bad idea and will…

Beautifully written, wonderfully argued. @SeanFraserMP is stripping away vestiges of our Westminster style of government. By doing so he is making us more American. And that’s an unadulterated bad thing. open.substack.com/pub/theline/p/…

An election is not absolution or the sole determining factor of democracy. There are plenty of tyrants who are "elected" on a regular schedule, it doesn't make the society a democracy. I've lost the ability to reply directly to your posts though. Must be a technical error.

I didn’t say it was wrong. I said it’s a weird take to say that the guy who is elected on a regular schedule is more of an authoritarian than the guy who isn’t. You’re mixing up two different issues.

Some are comparing this to the antics of a certain President. I think it’s worse than that. This kind of photo op only serves to undermine parliament and the legislative process by misrepresenting how our system actually works.

Canada’s new cabinet met for the first time this morning. One of our first orders of business: a tax cut for the middle class. Starting July 1, hard-working Canadians will keep more of their paycheques.

“MAGA isn’t conservatism — it’s oppositional defiance disorder parading in the carcass of what conservatism used to be. It’s rage for its own sake, wrapped in flags and slogans, burning down every principle it used to pretend to defend.” My latest in the National Post.

Reminder that a UK government with a spine could probably knock Mauritius into a depression the likes of which is basically unknown beyond war or natural disaster. They can't "squeeze" us, our government is just pathetic and spineless.

The reason we face climate change is because of the outright lie that nuclear is too toxic and dangerous. This is false. And, high costs come from the bureaucracy wrapped around the scientifically inaccurate ALARA principle. Modern nuclear is even far safer still.

Diefenbaker was bringing this up at Commonwealth meetings way back in the 1950s. That they were united not by race or religion, but by core ideas that were accessible to anyone willing to receive them.

One more complaint: The idea that Canada is an exclusive club for "Judeo-Christian values." That's American talk. We are the most successful outpost of a British Empire whose power derived largely from the notion that *anyone* could be a loyal subject of the Queen.

LIVE: First Nations Will Bring Home Resource Projects & Dollars With Poilievre

Taking my first vacation since starting work 6 years ago. This feels unnatural.

To all of my Alberta lawyer friends. Today is the opening of the Bencher election. I hope that you vote, selfishly, because I am running for Bencher. The ever wise and brilliant @MalcolmLavoie is also running and I would encourage you to vote for both of us.

What's with the recent rumblings of retroactive changing of terms of service? Is legal education that bad or are decision makers just ignoring lawyers? @finseraste @SunKerry ?
