Observing cycles in Nature… here. A dead Ponderosa Pine Tree is returning home. A local forest ranger once told me that it “takes the same number of years for a tree to disappear as it did to reach maturity. This image can be found in my gallery. impasto.picfair.com

As indicated, summer is beginning to drift away, wildflowers are few, grasses are going to seed. The night air has a touch of chill, seasons on the move. Ever look up the word “phenology?” This image is in the collection at: impasto.picfair.com

You can’t hike in Arizona without becoming aware of the study of archaeology. I’ve been doing it for over 40 years. Thousands of indigenous people have lived their lives here for thousands of years. Here are just a few photos of their handiwork left behind.

I observed these wildflowers among the summer grasses in Buffalo Park yesterday. The Bull Thistles and Prickly Pear cactus are about to blossom, more brilliant color! There are more than the usual number this year due to the recent rain in May. bit.ly/2YppAkC

Asclepias asperula is a species of milkweed native to the Southwestern United States and northern Mexico. Its common names include antelope horns, green-flowered milkweed, and spider antelope horns. Is a good food source for Monarch butterfly caterpillars.

The first real butterfly I see each spring is the Mourning Cloak. Today I observed my second one, a Variegated Fritillery sitting on an Axehead Butterweed, all sharp in the morning sun. Spring is late this year but it IS here. Jewels on my Day Hike near Buffalo Park in Flagstaff
