I just read a study that said that the more we teach “normal” kids how to interact with special needs children, the more special needs children had improved social skills from having peer models and someone willing to interact with them.
Give students opportunities to interact without the pressure of academics and I think it will surprise people more than they think. Most kids are naturally sympathetic and the more we normalize interaction the less they are viewed as “other”.
Even “entitled” parents are trying to make sure their children have what they need to be successful. I’d rather work with an entitled parent than an absent one.
A3 encouraging family involvement from the beginning. We have recently restructured our meetings to have students/families lead the meeting and staff provide suggestions for support to help achieve their family identified goal. Stop treating kids as one size fits all
We have recently implemented a change in our district where the students and families lead all Plan meetings. The teacher’s job is to explain how appropriate supports at school based on a student’s current level can be provided to help achieve the goals of the student/family.
A2 before we can make groundbreaking change, first we need to make sure we’re providing the accommodations that are already supposed to be in place. If there’s questions about why, ask. If you disagree with the accommodations, show your data. Make these decisions as a team.
Exactly. Things aren’t how they’ve always been because we know more so we should do more l.
I agree with this 100% maybe there really is more people out there with special needs, but I think a big factor of the increase is that the stigma to have a diagnosis isn’t as prevalent anymore.
A1 as a teacher who works with deaf/hard of hearing students, I have noticed a big increase in co-morbidities. I don’t perceive it as a bad thing since I believe it means we are following through on high expectations and that students are capable so their being mainstreamed more

A3 #NewToSLTChat Hello again @newtosltchat What I was trying to say was that the gaps identified in teaching Computing by the Curriculum Review isn't happening in all Primaries. I for example have been using #CriticalThinking for teaching #OnlineSafety since at least 2021.
A2 #NewToSLTChat Apologies for the rambling rantiness last night @newtosltchat I've started working with Years 7 and 8 since September and can see big gaps in learning emerging not just in writing and mathematics. "Testing" will not close that gap. Better resourced schools can.
1 of 2: Am wondering or thinking about the #NewCurriculum and the reform from Computer Science to Computing at GCSE. Is there a general belief @bcs that programmers will no longer be needed in the future in the face of AI? Seems like folly to think so...
I know and recognise that those who have been working on this are eminent professionals with a long history and rich pedigree in teaching and learning but Computing has been portrayed here describes the worst examples of the landscape. A deeply disappointing read. #NewCurriculum
A3 #NewToSLTChat Like @andrew_cowley23 Happy to see Digital and Media Literacy as well as Critical Thinking skills become a more prominent part of the curriculum but to say "new" to all Primaries is just not true... x.com/TsuiAllen/stat…
A2 #NewToSLTChat It is an issue of transition and whether Secondaries use the end of KS2 tests as a baseline or allow Secondaries to establish their own baselines for their cohorts.
