Visited MOWAA last year and was so impressed with the vision and the (very clear) hard work that has gone into building this institution. This project is a generational game changer for Benin and I really hope authorities act with wisdom and foresight.

Oh. We still haven't learned that we can't "import substitute" an industrial sector into existence? Ok. Well done to all involved.
Enjoyed this about the embarrassing stagnation in Nigeria’s palm oil industry and how despite extreme and sustained government protectionism, there is little to show except high local prices. By @DoubleEph 1914reader.com/p/food-the-ter…

"When it comes down to it, the only yardstick that a majority of Nigerians will use to appraise the administration is the personal, as no one pays bills with GDP and related figures."
Today, I lean on the latest NDU by @WBG_Nigeria to posit that the best argument for the Tinubu reforms is to make them count for most Nigerians, and call for a renewed focus on tackling rising poverty, food inflation and earmarks for revenue agencies. 👇🏽 thisdaylive.com/2025/10/12/mak…

Not enough people in policymaking roles appreciate the level of urgency needed to address the Continent’s jobs problem. Too many people remain stuck in their ways, doing the same things over and over again.

What’s the most unhinged thing you’ve done to get ahead?
Earmarking revenue to fund government agencies is usually a bad idea because, regardless of the amounts involved, they will always find a way to spend it. Yet every naira spent by these pseudo‑agencies is a naira not spent on a child’s education or a mother’s health. Tradeoffs.
In my @THISDAYLIVE column, I question RMAFC's record even on its basic functions, the rationale for granting it an earmark on non-oil revenue, how 0.05% NEC approval became 0.5%, and if Nigeria really needs it as a permanent body with 38 commissioners. 👇 thisdaylive.com/2025/08/31/sti…
Who are Northwest Nigeria’s bandits and what are we to make of them? @jh_barnett & myself travelled to the epicenter of the banditry crisis to find answers. In this thread, we explore who these bandits are, what drives them, and why are they so hard to defeat. (1/n)
Nigeria's non-oil exports rose 19.6% to $3.225 billion in the first half of 2025, its export promotion agency said on Monday, citing global demand for products such as cocoa and urea, as well as government trade initiatives and regional trade deals. reuters.com/world/africa/n…
It is of course tantamount to a regressive tax.... which is the opposite of the kind of tax we should be trying to raise to finance public services or public entities.
In my column in today's @THISDAYLIVE, I argue that the 4% free-on-board levy on the value of imports will offer Customs multiples of its current massive funding and slash its reliance on FAAC, but at a cost to consumers, businesses and the economy. 👇 thisdaylive.com/2025/08/10/the…
