If NHS trusts hadn’t had to pay more than £1.8 billion in *interest charges* to private companies, that money could have paid for the starting salaries of over 50,000 NHS doctors 😮🚨
A nail-on-the-head kind of assessment for non-exhaustive. Exhaustive enough enough to have a positive impact if they were done They’d be an excellent start point. The low-hanging, but very heavy fruit, as it were.
It’s clear that no-one knows how to “fix” the NHS. It has become clear to me however what will NOT fix it. A non-exhaustive 🧵 -recycling incompetent / inadequate executive level staff and senior managers -failure to address and implement good succession planning, inc doctor 1/5
Having fewer GPs per patient leads to poorer health outcomes, including delayed diagnoses and care and increased strain on other parts of the health service, such as hospitals says @NuffieldTrust So why don’t @wesstreeting @NHSuk @DHSCgovuk take notice? nuffieldtrust.org.uk/nhs-staffing-t…
Short-sighted government plans mean that we’re on a merry go round of doctor unemployment and doctor substitution. @wesstreeting has the perfect opportunity to fix this permanently: Pay doctors what they are worth Train them Avoid unsafe substitution. It’s not rocket science.
You know @wesstreeting if you stopped paying all the people pretending to be doctors such a lot of money, and actually spent it on doctors and training specialists then you probably would have a well staffed and well trained medical workforce to provide care for the future.
There’s a perception that turning General Practice into same day urgent service will relieve pressure on hospitals. This fails on many levels. Hospitals aren’t busy because of GP. What will help is funding GP to do more prevention work - reduce long term demand on healthcare.
A bit of background info on Wes Streeting that you won’t have been given in his TV interviews today - particularly in regard to discussions about junior doctors and the @NHSuk There will have been no mention of the amount of money Wes has received from wealthy private healthcare…
Maybe I was too generous with my assessment a few months ago that we were being governed by a middle aged bunch who were stuck in a 6th form time warp. Looks like I added a decade of wisdom!
We’ve all had enough of this utterly clueless Health secretary “GPs mandated to see 90% of clinically urgent patients on the same day” …with NO additional GPs or resources?! You can’t just mandate something & expect it to magically happen- even my 8yr old can understand that!
It’s ‘innovation’ at its finest
Wes Streeting would rather spend £250 million covering the cost of strikes than take real action to get unemployed doctors back to work. Thousands of doctors are sitting at home unable to progress because of government caps on speciality training places, the only route to…
NHS England shake-up will divert patients into community care Except Wes isn’t moving any funding into community care So there you have it…. thetimes.com/article/cd145c…
Lord Falconer says people with “learning difficulties or autism” could, with “proper assistance”, access assisted suicide. That should alarm every Peer in the Lords. Vulnerable people don’t need help to die. They need support to live.
Perhaps he’ll follow in the hallowed footsteps of Baroness Gerada and be appointed a life peer in the New Year Honours list. Seems like the logical next step.
Love this. Plenty of countries have one. Why doesn’t England, @wesstreeting @NHSuk @NHSEngland ?
It's been 8 years since I took on Hunt at RCGP conference and pissed him right off on national TV. Who was right Jeremy? Sadly, it was me. You and everyone who followed you has just made it all infinitely worse. If only you had listened to all of the highly dedicated…
While you are waiting over 12 hours to be seen by a Doctor in AnE, doctors are searching for work unemployed. 14 doctors are applying for 1 AnE training job. 1000s of doctors are ready to work to reduce the waiting list and wait times. This is a complete failure of the system.
Waits of more than 12 hours in A&E after decision to admit up again - 44,765 in Sept in England - increase of nearly 9,000

Doctors are going to go on Strike again. Nearly 50% of Doctors who passed their Medical Degree in the last 3 years are unemployed in the UK. It used to be 1-2%. Yet Waiting Lists are at record highs and not going down. Why aren't they employed?
Anyone who has not seen @KemiBadenoch speech today should sit and watch. It was a political masterclass delivered with passion and skill. Great announcements. Competence and common sense. She has stopped the rot!! Congratulations.
A vibrant speech that sounds to me like the new beginnings we all hope for. “if not me, then who? If not now then when?” Be a part of creating a prosperous future, where things will function as they’re supposed to membership.conservatives.com/membership/Lev… Well done @KemiBadenoch @kevinhollinrake

It’s very simple. You have 150 patients that need to be see in ED. You can have 20 doctors. Or You reduce down to 12 doctors, and then add 8 PA’s and ACPs. What happens? doctors are replaced by less educated and qualified individuals. Number of referrals goes up,…
