On this day in 1980, I took this candid photo of Paul Allen outside the team hotel as we waited for the team bus to take us on the victory parade ⚒️
OTD in 2006 I received an early morning phone call. It was Ray Stewart and he said two words: “John’s dead”. The news then began to hit the media. A great man and a champion of me becoming Club Photographer. Here is one of my favourite photographs of him. RIP John Angus Lyall.
What I love about Social Media is that some of my forgotten photos appear now and again. This shot of a teenage Frank Lampard is a classic example. I know Frank’s not every Hammers’ fans cup of tea, I literally watched him grow up from a toddler to become a great player. ⚒️
Today would have been John Lyall’s 84th birthday. In my opinion, the best manager the Club has ever seen. He was so influential in my subsequent career at Upton Park and was the most honest, decent man I have ever come across. Keep blowing those bubbles John ⚒️
Happy 66th Birthday to my great mate Paul Brush. Sometimes you just click with another person, and Brushie and I were close friends during his career - and to this day. Not a bad player either! ⚒️
Happy 67th Birthday to my old mucker Ray Winstone, who I first came across many years ago at Repton Boxing Club. I followed his acting career with great interest until reconnecting with him many years later at Upton Park. A proper east London boy and a true Hammer ⚒
This popped up in my memories today. I was lucky enough to see Clyde Best play and met up with him a few years back. Only one phrase to describe him “Gentle Giant”. A lovely, lovely man ⚒️
Happy 73rd Birthday to my great friend David Cross. Not only a Hammers’ legend but a truly nice guy and one of the funniest blokes I’ve ever met. There was never a dull moment when in his company. I first met him on the day he signed for the Club in 1977 with the great John Lyall
