Bakta is a worthy successor to Prokka, which has been neglected in recent years. Bakta is being actively developed with new features that Prokka never had, so I encourage Prokka users to try it out!

🦠🧬🖥️ We've released v1.5.0 of Bakta along with a huge DB update! New features: - detection of pseudogenes - assignments of KEGG Orthology accessions - addition of 9.8 million E.C. numbers to PSCs github.com/oschwengers/ba… More information below 👇 (1/7)

Many strains of C. acnes are all over the skin of your face but each pore contains only ONE strain. Each strain gets comfy in its pore so it doesn't have to compete with other strains. An example of spatial structure shaping the microbial community. cell.com/cell-host-micr…

Large scale analysis (over 1000 genomes!) leads to cool results. 😎 We wholeheartedly agree with this understatement from the abstract: “Wolbachia is an iconic example of a successful intracellular bacterium.” That’s why it’s our favorite to study!

Our analysis of 1000 Wolbachia genomes with @cibiocm @panphlan @fondazionemach is out. We found no support for synchronous divergence between Wolbachia and host mitochondria. Drosophila-Wolbachia dynamics seems to be the exception rather than the norm. nature.com/articles/s4146…
