Been a while since I wrote something, but here's a closer look into Manchester City's problems. Obvious off the pitch issues aside, I've looked at the worrying tactical patterns that has affected City this season for @BetweenThePosts betweentheposts.net/a-magnifying-l…
Here's what the full sequence looks like in practice:
Pep Guardiola: "@BernardoCSilva was struggling last season, but he was there; EVERY. SINGLE. GAME. Exhausted! After 50, 60 minutes he could not run one minute, and in certain moments he said, 'Pep, I'm drained. My mind is not anymore. It's defeat, defeat, defeat'. But he was…
Screams I have not seen Foden play for City this season.
Thomas Tuchel on @PhilFoden: "Where he played [against] Dortmund was where I see him strongest; close to the opponent's box, a mix between No.9 and No.10. For me, Phil scores and assists more from the 18-yard box - where he scored against Dortmund - on the half-turn, in the…
Have always said his best position is more deeper and somewhat an all-round midfield role. If Rice plays as a 6 for England, Foden should be his partner atleast against teams they control possession. Good video by Jon here explaining how Pep (finally) gave him the keys.
A short video on something we're seeing a lot more of recently: small space players being used deeper on the field. This time, the story is told from the POV of Phil Foden at City.

RAYAN CHERKI: SPECIAL, SPECIAL FOOTBALLER. 🧙♂️
Pep Guardiola on Phil Foden taking responsibility: “The biggest example is against Arsenal everybody was exhausted and tired because we ran a lot behind the ball and we parked the bus… In that moment Phil said ‘I want to play again’.”
Don’t need to say anything about Foden. God is watching you lot who switched
I've always said this. Give the ball to Foden as much as you can. He's a player thriving when he gets the feel of the ball regularly. Foden dropping deep with Rodri, and Reijnders doing the forward running works ATM, with the latter still adjusting.
A DEBUT TO REMEMBER IN THE #CAFANationsCup2025 🤩🇮🇳 Khalid Jamil's #BlueTigers defeat hosts Tajikistan in the Group 🅱️ opener 👊 #TJKIND #IndianFootball ⚽
Just most of Pep Guardiola's signings
You know how people always talk about new signings like “He’ll come good, just wait” How often does that actually happen for attackers in the PL? I’m going through all the best attackers in the league the last decade, almost all of them were good immediately
