What’s one low-tech innovation making a big impact on healthcare in western Kenya? Hint: It’s not an app. It’s not AI. It’s a bicycle. 🚲🧵

This is an important point. The very fact that such a conflict exists, regardless of which side one takes, shows deep incompetence on the part of the government.

10/This isn’t gig economy empowerment—it’s technofeudalism in neoliberal wrapping. The state didn’t just step back; it outsourced governance to platforms. What we’re seeing is worse than taxi cartels: a corporate takeover of public functions, with brutal consequences for workers.

@rahulatiitd thanks for asking my opinion on it. I agree in part—but the story is more nuanced. Local taxi caps in India weren’t pushed by cartels. Courts imposed them, citing congestion. Cartels just exploited the system by controlling permits & creating a grey market.

Progressives justify banning cab aggregators by citing gig worker rights. But drivers still prefer aggregators, even with lower pay, because local taxi cartels long restricted new drivers and pushed for caps, limiting opportunities well before aggregators arrived on the scene.
