4-3-3 which goes to a 3-4-3 build-up scheme with a rotation to get Yamal higher & narrower and closer to goal ? Fermin has the ball-carrying to rotate out wide, so I like it.

Not saying Alonso is at fault but 1st in the league & in the CL top 8 yet getting dissenting voices in the dressing room shows you that so much of elite coaching is maintaining good relationships with your staff (upwards to the board & downwards to the players),not just tactics.

I would. We need a secondary creator in the team apart from Saka. NOR-Reece-Anderson is good but slightly bland creatively compared to France (Olise + Dembouz) and Spain (Pedri + Yamal). Fit Trent should displace Reece now we have Konsa emerged as a high quality channel defender.

Wharton is a higher ceiling talent for me. The gaps he finds within a few touches destroy a team’s defensive structure. But I can see why Tuchel prefers starting Anderson at 6 in a 4-3-3 given he’s better defensively.

Wharton’s one/two touch passing is special. Check 2nd Palace goal vs Wolves as an example. Random loose ball in the middle of the park and he can just immediately Palace’s attacking talent.

Woltemade is a pure threat. He turns and links so well in the pockets. And he can dominate CBs like Dias in the box. So much threat when you give him runners who fill his vacated space and crossers from wide. Newcastle have the former, they get the latter and he bangs very hard.

Waking up to that scorecard… weirdest test match ever. Done in 2 days and Travis Head pulls out a T20 innings from nowhere. Test match cricket is now becoming 4 innings of ODI cricket. England skittled out for < 200 twice is embarrassing considering no Cummins & Hazlewood.

Midfielders should be judged on how much of the pitch they access/influence on & off the ball. This is why Rice is now the best midfielder in the PL. And why fit Rodri was previously the best (no other midfielder had his passing range + ability to control the middle defensively).
