Plant dyes - all the colours achievable from leaf, flower and root within around a five mile radius. The red hot poker root was a gift from a friend on Skye but that’s only several miles across the water…
Lovely first day at Flock in Banchory with 45 other makers and artists. Got to meet fellow exhibitor @collingwoodnorr - between us we are holding our wholesome corners here on X
This weekend I’ll be at Flock, the annual contemporary craft and design fair in Banchory, Aberdeenshire. Friday 12pm-4pm. Sat & Sun 10am-4pm. Entry is free.
Velvet fly agaric, it fits a phone but carrying potions more fun. Lots of new makes on my website.
Well this took a few hours. Once those seam allowances go in it really reduces the size. Also, spot the difference. I unpicked a bit to straighten the lines and accidentally switched the layout.
Indigo, meadowsweet, walnut, madder, gorse flower, hawthorn. Patchworking these summer-dyed colours together on a rainy Sunday afternoon.
Hypericum perforatum, St. John's wort. I love the intense colour of the flower buds, a vibrancy that translated well to velvet print. Glasses case.
Great fun today with a UV light on sulphur tufts to show fluorescent green. They are a faintly bioluminescent fungus, a function that is maybe present to attract flies to the spores for dispersal. Thanks to Dominic McGrath for help today. #Fungi #FungiFriday
"It's dangerous to go into Fangorn alone. Take this"
Pairing plant dyed silk with digitally printed velvet. Two very different processes to bond colour to fabric. Starry moss has an indigo and meadowsweet green lining. Fly agaric is teamed with indigo and madder for taupe. Seashells has indigo fresh leaf process for lighter blue.
Gathering fabric print inspiration this morning at Inverewe garden. These starry clematis caught my eye.
Always inspired by the natural seasonal landscapes and flora that surround me in the highlands. I photographed these vibrant fern fronds at Torrachilty forest. Every bag that leaves my studio is designed, constructed and made by my hands 🌿 No opaque supply chain here.
Scots pines growing on the islands of Loch Maree, remnants of the ancient Caledonian forest. Just finished up a couple of these larger shoulder bags. With a printed velvet panel and waxed cotton canvas base/back.
Woodland floor after the storm. Lovely colour combo.
Wave watching this evening, the remains of the storm.
