“What if being lost is part of the path? What if we are supposed to tack across the surface of the lake, sailing into the wind instead of wishing it was only at our backs? What if feeling lost, directionless, and uncertain of progress is an indicator of growth?” @jerrycolonna

Process mindset: 1. Set a goal. 2. Figure out the steps to achieving it that are within your control. 3. Mostly forget about the goal and focus on nailing the steps instead. 4. If you catch yourself obsessing about the goal, use it as a cue to get back to doing the work itself.

A seasonal reminder that Christmas isn't always 'merry.' If this season of jollity and connection jars for you, snags at your raw edges or catches your breath with loss, I'm sorry. You're not alone. In fact, you're almost certainly near other people pretending to feel jolly. 1/

I have nothing but love and respect for all of the educators and support staff in schools who are trying to figure out what is the right thing to do at this moment for our children. All of us Pontificators need to shut up unless we can help.

Just a reminder that you do not need to feel good to get going, you need to get going to give yourself a chance at feeling good. This pithy little sentence is based on years and years of research.

1. Charter schools ARE public schools. 2. They didn't "pick off" anything. Families chose them. 3. If 200K+ families made a similar decision in one year, we should ask why 4. If more charters were available and had space, the change would've been bigger axios.com/charter-school…

Withholding feedback is choosing comfort over growth. Staying silent deprives people of the opportunity to learn. If you're worried about hurting their feelings, it's a sign that you haven't earned their trust. In healthy relationships, honesty is an expression of care.

According to NAEP, Only 15 out of 100 Black students read on grade level. Only 13 out of 100 Black students do math on grade level. Only 9 out of 100 Black students performed on grade level in civics. We should not trust our kids to government schools. #BlackMindsMatter

I found this research on how to address Covid-related learning loss really helpful. I recommended last week that we use federal funds to support a high dosage tutoring program in CPS starting in the fall. edweek.org/leadership/opi…

Please read, share, discuss. Then Decide how you will act differently. If you work in education you should have this conversation. Honestly if you work with people at all you should discuss and ID your biases. Thanks @citizenstewart citizen.substack.com/p/yes-america-…

To my knowledge, we haven’t lost any students to COVID. Thank god. But in same timeframe, we’ve lost nearly 10 to gun violence. Number goes up to many dozens since I became Supt. I’m well past heartbroken. I’m angry. We have to figure out how to stop this. wtvr.com/news/local-new…
