THREAD: A thread on research and sampling, and how the media use data and polling. I can safely say from a decade of working with media, it is *highly* unusual for a newspaper to so heavily reference a self-selecting and homemade survey and present it as the views of all people.
*Shock news* Removing wands on Kensington High St has done nothing to allieviate congestion. Who could have predicted that removing alternative ways of travelling and forcing more people to drive would have caused more driving, and congestion? 😱
No wonder the cycle lane in #KensingtonHighStreet had to go. The petition against it showed complaints from as far away as Cairo.
⚠️ We are saddened & disappointed that the current climate means we have to announce a limited number of crews for this years race. All with safety and fairness in mind. Our framework for accepting entries is below with more info ⬇️ fourshead.org/2020/10/21/upd…
The Pairs Head Committee have not let a global pandemic nor the closure of a bridge on their course get in the way of running their competition and, on behalf of the rowing community, we salute the organisers for their efforts against all the odds! rock-the-boat.co.uk/blogs/news/who…

Pavement parking is bad for disabled people. Pavement parking is bad for pedestrians. Pavement parking is bad for parents. Pavement parking is bad for children. Pavements belong to people, not cars. Ban pavement parking.
Some people responded angrily in Amsterdam when change was afoot. Aggression didn’t sway policy there and it won’t here.
'But our city isn't Amsterdam!' Well, so wasn't Amsterdam... Policies only changed after serious bottom-up protests in which people fought to take the streets back from #Motordom in the 1970s. Quite literally!
Are you seeing what is happening to the world, London? Will you stand there and watch climate change coming for you, and everyone you care for? Or will you act? #ActNow
Karachi, population 15 million, is largely underwater: Pakistan's biggest city had it roads turned to rivers, its houses destroyed and its people fleeing to shelters - suffering from its worst floods since records began #climate
On yesterday’s ride I was passed 3 times by lorries from the same company (Farrell Transport) and each one was textbook and safe👌🏼 I dropped them an email to say it was noticed and appreciated as it doesn’t happen much these days 😊

Evidence from Urban Roads without Bicycle Lanes on the Impact of Bicycle Traffic on Passenger Car...
A concern raised by some motorists in relation to the presence of bicycles on urban roads without bicycle lanes, discussed in part of the traffic literature, is...
🚴🏾♂️🚴🏻♀️There are likely to be plenty of "consultations" in many London boroughs, such as the one referenced below. 🗣 🏛 Be sure to find out what your local council or park authority is doing, and have your say, especially when it comes to cycling infrastructure. #ActiveTravel
#RichmondPark consultation update. [THREAD] With @RichmondPkCycle we've just spoken to @theroyalparks about the changes due on Saturday. This thread isn't going to answer all the questions, but we'll make a start. {Lovely pic H/T @AndyOsira ) 1/...
Please reconsider this, especially your decision to allow cars to travel between Richmond and Roehampton gates. There are no car parks on this stretch, so it will simply be used as a rat run.
This takes a currently amazing car free Richmond Park and reintroduces a huge ratrun through it. Small steps forward but one huge step backwards. Shame. @matbono @theroyalparks @RichmondCycling @London_Cycling @Lungs_of_London
The back pain was probably rowing karma for going forward for once!
