As a fellow emerg doc, I'm extremely disappointed to see this inaccurate focus on COVID related illness as the main cause for incr ED wait times and staff shortages. Rather the link to COVID is that it exposed a system that has always been non functional, but now just more so.🧵

This thing has rapidly become the world’s exasperating good news/bad news story. If your head isn’t spinning, you’re not paying attention. A 🧵on my take on both the good news & the bad, with an emphasis on the things that have changed in the past few days... or minutes.(1/25)

I am concerned about this waning immunity narrative that has been saturating the airwaves for the last several weeks. Antibodies naturally wane with time, but the immune response still prevents you from getting extremely sick. This was true even before the pandemic. 1/

The thing about the Twitter outrage echo chamber is I understand anger at the Federal gov’t vaccine procurement and border screw ups and I understand anger at provincial gov’t vaccine distribution and healthcare management but I don’t understand anger at only one of the two.

Amid America's #COVID19 disaster, I must come clean about a lie I spread as a health insurance exec: We spent big $$ to push the idea that Canada's single-payer system was awful & the U.S. system much better. It was a lie & the nations' COVID responses prove it. The truth: (1/6)

February employment was 19 million. That would suggest that more than 20% of workers lost their jobs in a matter of weeks.

Again, I don't think it's helpful to frame govt financial aide programs as 'stimulus'. Think of it like we thought of defense spending during WWII. I mean, yes, it will have stimulus-type effects, but that's not the argument for doing it.

Preliminary T1 data is out today, here is change in median income by age group. The spike in Toronto in the 15 to 24 years age group should be interpreted with caution. Small denominator exaggerates change, total income in that age group is still lower than e.g. in Vancouver.
