Read this feature in NIT- In an email to members on November 20, they said a proposal was being put forward to seek the appointment of four Aboriginal scholar-activists: Prof Gary Foley, A/Prof Crystal McKinnon, Dr Evelyn Araluen, and Natalie Ironfield. nit.com.au/08-12-2023/897…
90approx in attendance, listen to members, inc founding members, stories of what a public intellectual space is & can do ... these are not stories about a "public facing institute" to use the current board's lingo but a real project of public pedagogy for everyone #saveIPCS

I’ve been a distant though deeply appreciative observer of the Institute of Postcolonial Studies for many years. Recently I found out IPCS is under threat so I went to this meeting tonight. There were many profound reflections & I encourage anyone who isn’t familiar to watch 👇

Seems a very odd time to be closing something like this... we're in the middle of a war that originates with British colonialism...as does the Rohingya genocide and the Tamil genocide in Sri Lanka...
Help us keep the Institute going. As active members of the Institute of Postcolonial Studies, we have spent years at the Institute cultivating community, growing mutually and bringing life to a space that invited us to engage with questions of the postcolonial.
It is critical that the Institute of Postcolonial Studies remains open given the role it’s played in hosting so many critical Indigenous voices and scholarship! Share and support the campaign @saveipcs
The Board's decision to close down the Institute has compelled the founding director, Phillip Darby to speak out in clarification of his position on the decision, and in favour of our campaign to keep the Institute open.
A great letter emphasizing the importance of dedicated places where we can think together...and talk #saveIPCS #transformIPCS
On December 2, 2023 Professor Tony Birch wrote the following letter regarding the Board of the IPCS efforts to close down the Institute -
Professor uncle Tony Birch eloquently explains that fundamental change is often met with refusal and the need for dialogue to save such an important political and intellectual project. #saveipcs
