My name is Hugo Amorim. I am actually PhD Student in Parasite Biology on Oswaldo Cruz Institute - Rio de Janeiro/Brazil - Studying the characterization of metacaspase-1 as a therapeutic target in malaria caused by Plasmodium vivax specie in in vitro and in silico approaches.

The 30th of July is significant for me as it marks the day I became a Doctor in Science through my graduate program in Parasitic Biology at the best institute in Latin America (Fiocruz). I'm grateful for my colleagues and supervisor. Proud to be Dr. Amorim!

Now it's official, I have a date to finish the PhD.

To get postdoc fellowship grants, I’m pretty sure that the committee cares 😊

Parasitologists! Come to Brazil 🇧🇷

Professor Martin Olivier, renowned immunoparasitologist and professor at McGill University in Canada invites you to PARASITO 2025 which will take place in Salvador - Bahia! Don't miss it!

Today, I finished an era in my academic journey. I was the Students' Representative for more than 4 years in the Parasitic Biology Program at IOC, and it was a wonderful and challenging time: being a bridge between the coordinators and the students. What an experience I gained!

Brand new notice.

ASTMH is proud to announce the brand new Kwiatkowski Fellowship, which will be awarded annually to one early- to mid-career researcher from a low- or middle-income country focused on advancing research in malaria genomic epidemiology. Learn more: astmh.org/CMSPages/GetFi…

Honored to present my PhD research at one of Brazil’s top malariology conferences! Working with metacaspase in Plasmodium vivax and recently, Plasmodium knowlesi has been challenging yet rewarding. Proud of all we’ve achieved so far on this journey! #Malaria #Research

MEF2 is upregulated during cardiac hypertrophy and is required for normal post-natal growth of the myocardium: Current Biology cell.com/current-biolog… 25 years ago this week, the Megeney lab published its very first paper and the story has stood the test of time!

Working with #Plasmodium can be challenging, and studying its biology is complex. As I near the end of my PhD, I have focused on various time points in #P. vivax. Now, I’m spending nights at the lab to prepare for a 3-hours follow-up on #P. knowlesi biology.

It is insanely good to be back to Twitter. It is allowed again in Brazil afterwards. :)

2° paper of our group this year. A study about Plasmodium vivax’s cell death. This time, results from Carolina’s Master’s. 1) Occurs in absence of classical apoptotic events; 2) Induced eryptosis in pRBC; It seems that there will be a 3° paper this year. mdpi.com/2076-0817/13/8…
