As long as you write and unleash your projects upon the world… you will face criticism. Hopefully constructive. Face it head on, be open to opinions, don’t defend yourself from producer’s notes, and move on to getting the project made.

Avoid the vomit draft as most of it won’t be useful —and when you start working professionally, you will need to turn in a fantastic first draft. Train yourself now to complete a solid first draft.
Deadlines will become vital to your professional life as a working screenwriter. Start training yourself now to meet your self imposed deadlines for the time when you do work under a contract and a deadline.

It’s vital to be able to detach so you can weather the emotional highs and lows of this business. Don’t take every rejection to heart. Learn from it and move forward. Remember, this will not be your only script. It’s just one of a giant pile you will need to create.
