TIP OF THE DAY As a screenwriter, you will most likely have many deals fall through. And a lot of those deals will get very close to becoming real just before they fall through. And this will happen more often than getting a project produced. Embrace it, it's all part of it.
The only way to survive the inevitable heartbreak of being a screenwriter, I have found, is to variegate your workload. Having a variety of projects in various stages of dev. makes it much less crushing when one (read: most of them) falls apart. You mourn, then happily move on.

I have written 20 scripts professionally. 3 have them have, to writ, become movies. And I'm considered to be doing well. This is hard for all of us. There is no shame in failing, only in giving up. Just. Keep. Writing.
