BadAss Head Coaches give praise in public to assistants and players ( sometimes even when losing)and take the blame when things go wrong. They win players and coaches loyalty and trust by being “ stand up” leaders. It’s easy to lead when all is good…Real leaders rise in crisis.
I noticed 5 things watching state football Championship level teams: communities are invested, youth is connected, parents trust the coach, coaches are allowed to coach hard, players take coaching. If your program don’t got these 5 things your not a championship level program.
The most common weakness on football teams is lack of staff alignment and staff unwilling to be honest with each other, particularly with the HC. Coaches love to focus on the team’s culture . . . but 70% of teams don’t have a staff culture good enough to win a championship.
Assistant Coaches that engage Head Coaches in hard conversations are worth their weight in gold!!!
