Humans started it, LLM scaled it. Academic slop has been a problem for many years.

I just finished a three-year term as an editor at an international relations journal. I began at the start of the LLM era but ended right in the middle of it. Our volume of submissions tripled and our desk reject rate rose to 75%. I have some thoughts. link below

Bookmakers who behave like bet365 did here deserve to lose their license. Same for the (de-)bankers mentioned in the story.

Very important piece in Spectator where Toby Young says Bet.365 refuse to pay winnings on a bet until he's undergone checks through being a Politically Exposed Person as a member of the House of Lords.

What a great piece. Literary, cleverly written, and, of course, encyclopedically fluent in the period.

Jeff Landry is a true miracle worker, perhaps the only person on the planet who can make me smile for Brian Kelly, who got $54 million to get away from this circus.

Governor Jeff Landry says in no uncertain terms that Scott Woodward will NOT select the next LSU Football coach.

Hong Kong is literally the birthplace of CAW. The level if misinformation out there right now is frightening.

Hong Kong Jockey Club and Japan allow ZERO CAW’s into their pools. And they act purely as the racing venue and the bet taker. As they should.

A racing question I haven’t seen addressed: what’s the impact of new 90% tax write-off rule on CAWs? Effectively wipes out their rebate advantage going forward. Will they even survive after this year? Could be an interesting ‘experiment’ if rule reverts back in ‘26 or later.

I want to thank Nexstar for doing the right thing. Local broadcasters have an obligation to serve the public interest. While this may be an unprecedented decision, it is important for broadcasters to push back on Disney programming that they determine falls short of community…
