Australia is opening its arms to accept foreign Passport holders for entertainment whilst denying its own citizens with Australian passports their right to be in their own country! #strandedaussies....What the hell is that!

If Australia wants to severely restrict Australians from coming home during pandemic then it should first hold a debate on what it means to be a citizen. It’s painful to see a rich country use logistics as an excuse to compromise on citizen rights #strandedAussies @removethecaps

What a sad day. Beautiful. But nowhere to go. Florists with stock they can't sell. Functions cancelled. Restaurants having to throw out volumes of fresh food because their doors have been locked. A whole State closed. There has got to be a better way of handling future outbreaks

The fact that Australia has done SO WELL avoiding covid disease & death gives us no leave pass to run amateur quarantine to have poor airborne protection plans to not be open about vaccine choice & supply to leave our own people stranded overseas without assistance.

If @DanielAndrewsMP actually used 'compassionate' grounds to return #strandedAussies, people homeless, jobless, separated from their family, denied medical care, then hotel quarantine would need to INCREASE. Pretending otherwise is politics at its most craven.

priyank reposted

Anyone getting a bit tired of @ScottMorrisonMP and @GregHuntMP telling the states they can do more hotel quarantine when the federal government (whose actual jobs it is to get Australians home) refuses to lift a finger to offer federal quarantine facilities?

priyank reposted

Funny, there was already an inquiry into hotel quarantine. What happened to those findings eh?? 🤔🤔

@DanielAndrewsMP flagging he MAY shut HQ in future "the problem is, even that time sequence may not be fast enough for this. And that's why I'm making it clear to you that I'm looking at HQ & whether it can be done at an acceptable risk level. And I don't think I'll be alone."

Every case is a compassionate case. How many more times do people have to be offloaded and lose money. The stress this lockdown is causing to people stranded overseas who were due back this weekend is unimaginable.

priyank reposted

A sad day for #strandedAussies who are also Victorians. Who is going to determine these "genuine compassionate" cases? And why shouldn't all Aussies be allowed home? The airlines are the ones dictating who flies, not @DanielAndrewsMP. You are punishing people who are not at fault

Red carpet for tennis players (and film stars et al) but slammed-shut gate for citizens says an awful lot about Australia. Something I personally never recognised growing up or even a day pre - pandemic. The realisation is as ugly as it is heartbreaking.

and who couldn’t see it coming? The expat-bashing + one rule for tennis players = frustration.

Quarantining in hotels is a death chamber. We have had 12 months of COVID. Could have had a housing development built in that time. too much chatter, not enough action. @DanielAndrewsMP @ScottMorrisonMP

Can’t say it better. Almost a year managing #strandedaussies and hotel quarantine and 100s of better options offered but @ausgov doesn’t care about “people” their focus is on “virus” so that they can blame everything on it eventually !

Dear @DanielAndrewsMP, Do not say “wickedly hyper infectious virus moving at hyper speed”. The virus did not get “smarter”. It’s a brainless lump of protein. It’s been doing the same thing for months. We’re the one that hasn’t set up a good enough system for it.

Lockdown sucks. Now imagine lockdown, but you have no job, no permanent home, no family around, no access to healthcare, and every few weeks you buy a ticket home but then it's cancelled. That's what #strandedAussies have been facing. For months.

priyank reposted

This is the reality for those #strandedAussies you are suggesting we decide can, or cannot, come home based on a 'vulnerability rating system' @DanielAndrewsMP I would suggest we don't have the right to decide who is left behind to suffer. @ScottMorrisonMP @AlboMP @KKeneally
