Almost 20% of users aged over 50 wait 5-6 years before upgrading their phones. This compares to around 10% of 25-49 year olds. This can really make a difference to site speed experience. Look at the Debenhams homepage loading on a Moto G4 (2016) vs. an iPhone X (2017)!

All in all, Bing’s load speed mirrors its life story when pitted against Google. A much-heralded start, followed by disappointment.
The largest asset on Bing takes 1.4 secs to appear, compared to 1.2 secs for Google. Maybe that image isn’t a good idea after all. Bing’s layout also shifts suddenly at the end because of that top bar, meaning it doesn’t even get a clean bill of health for its Core Web Vitals.
Here's a slowed down version of the video, so you can more easily see the differences. Bing wins the race to the first pixel to appearing, clocking in at 0.8 seconds, compared to 1 second for Google. However, it's pretty much downhill from there.
First up, it’s the battle of the search engines. The fight for users was barely ever more than a skirmish but what about the need for speed? It’s Google vs. Bing. And the results are a bit surprising. At least to start with.
