Every time I try to construct a representative blurb for my read on the State of the Mavs beyond "hey at least we have a guy," my brain short circuits. Just too many layers of weirdly intertwined hope/rejuvenation/sadness/vindication/schadenfreude to make real sense of.
If I was a Lakers fan, I'd be mildly concerned about Luka's 3pt % and long term durability but wayyy more concerned about the organization's ability to surround him with enough shooting and athleticism to compete for titles in the next 3 years. Not easy in their situation.
Of all the Luka takes I've seen this season, critical or otherwise, this one feels most true. It's just perspective. His healthiest stretches have never coincided with any semblance of a complete team. Hard to internalize that if you weren't following the Mavs closely until '24.
Fundamental issue is most casual NBA fans didn't really watch Luka until the 2024 Finals. They don't know that he spent more year with time with Willie Cauley Stein as his lob man than Gafford or Lively.

The contested 3 over Dort to take the lead was the 3rd best play Ant made down the stretch. The block and the poke away on Shai in consecutive possessions felt even more decisive.
Just one game in December but Ant sonned Shai tonight. One of the best wins of the season so far.
Klay's gotta pull that one. I'd have preferred getting Coop a touch earlier in the possession but Klay hesitated on a decent look in rhythm then saddled PJ with a tougher shot.
On the plus side, won't be long before I can listen to an AI-generated Reggaeton remix of Pumped Up Kicks whenever I want
Worst Luka quarter I've watched so far this season. Awful body language. Loose with the ball. Petulant. Low-effort defense. Not taking his opponent seriously. It's rare his bad traits outweigh the productivity but it screams at you when it does.

I'm a day late on this but of all the 'thought leaders' who are way more academic and progressive than most working Americans but have big ideas about how to win their votes, Ezra Klein is among those I'm least worried about Dems listening to.
I agree with this ftr but the more charitable (and no less damning) read is that he's indecisive with the ball when there's not an obvious defensive response to *him*, which leads him to linger and meander, relieving pressure on the defense. That habit has a dulling effect.
