Mt. St. Helens erupted #OnThisDay in 1980. The lateral blast decimated 210 square miles & killed 57 people, making it the deadliest eruption in U.S. history. Photographers like Marilyn Bridges depicted the savage beauty as in this aerial view of trees blown down by the shockwave.
