This is a great effort by MS3 Caleigh and resident Jorge to systematically identify areas to help elevate the standard of neurosurgery in Bolivia ๐ง๐ด . More attention = more improvement ๐.
Greatwork to MS3 Khushi Shah for getting this study over the line, reviewing over 27K studies to show that the overall neurosurgery literature remains dominated by high income countries, and that there are many aspects to consider to improve representation for now and the future.
Congrats to another UM MS3 Khushi for creating the most comprehensive review on pediatric neurosurgical literature based on country income-level. There are clear discrepancies that are fortunately trending in the right direction.
Thank you for the award @SRS_org . Meeting was inspiring. Pediatric spine remains ๐ฅ.

Thanks to collab to generate this review on the latest regarding molecular treatment for pediatric low-grade brainstem gliomas - a space that will grow in the future no doubt!
Very excited to share our experience in Bolivia ๐ง๐ด on how we set up the first pediatric CSF workshop in the country. Collab w UWisconsin Neurosurgery x Solidarity Bridge proving strength in cooperation.
This recent study of ours sheds light on the concept of intrathecal therapy from a subcutaneous POV seen in the SMA population. It works. Future studies are needed to combine this access approach w surgical innovation to create liquorpheresis treatments in the future.
A while coming, our NIH R25-funded work on GBM LMD was published exposing the TLR-4 pathway as relevant, and more importantly for me, lays foundations for active cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) exchange studies to make clinical change. @AshishHShah4
Hola from Valdivia, Chile ๐จ๐ฑ . Sharing our recent collaborative publication suggesting periventricular inflammation is associated with early congenital hydrocephalus via the TLR-4 pathway. CSF studies will be key. Great things from unexpected places!
Can patients with brain tumors safely go home the same day after LITT? Our pilot study shows it's safe & feasible in selected patients. ๐:rdcu.be/elLyv

Sharing our efforts in understanding the rare situation of pediatric patients with brain tumors also presenting with metastasis at initial diagnosis. Molecular diagnosis again proving key to treatment.
Great read for those with academic interests about the publishing landscape and the emergence of open accessโฆ.. โOne of the delisted journals is the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health (MDPI), which published about 17โ000 articles last year.โ

Adding our latest update on clinical trials involving focused ultrasound (FUS) currently underway for brain tumors. The appetite is there, the prelim theory promising, and majority of results due soon! @INSIGHTEC
Exciting to share rare pediatric syndromes like Wolcott-Rallison Syndrome (autosomal recessive disorder defined by early-onset non-autoimmune diabetes, skeletal dysplasia, and multi-organ dysfuction) and how we approached a complex cervical decompression in this setting.
Presenting @PedsSection annual meeting in the concrete jungle of NY on 1) Bolivian pediatric medulloblastoma and 2) pro-inflammatory pathway in congenital hydrocephalus. The standard in this field continues rising.
2-for-1 Black Friday special for our group on pediatric global neurosurgery both published today. One looks at pediatric epilepsy around the world and associations with food, and one looks at pediatric myelomeningocele around Latin America and associations with prenatal repair.
This very interesting case of a novel LZTR1 variant in familial schwannomatosis - more to be learned and determined in peripheral nerve oncology! The intersting thought next is to compare pediatric samples as they age.
What an experience in La Paz ๐ง๐ด - to see the fruition of months of work emerge as the Pre-Congress Pediatric Workshop followed by the participation in 50th anniversary annual meeting of Bolivian Neurosurgery Society. Working w Solidarity Bridge and UWisconsin was a pleasure.
