My name is Eddy Quan. Like many people, I had a normal office job working 40-60 hours per week in a fluorescent lit cubicle. I sat on a bus for 90 minutes every morning in peak hour traffic so I could sit in a cubicle to look at Excel spreadsheets for 8 hours a day. I then…
Train yourself to say "I'll figure it out" for every single problem you face, even if it seems impossible to solve.
My life changed when I asked myself: "When are you going to get serious?"
The older I get, the more I realise a lack of consistency hurts you more than a lack of intelligence.
Instead of listening to another repetitive podcast, have you considered listening to your own thoughts and ideas?
Isaac Asimov wrote something like 500 books in his life time. He wrote fiction, non-fiction, essays and even some text books. When asked about his routine he said "I wake up at five in the morning. I work as much as I can. I do this everyday, including holidays and even when…

My favourite LA movies: > Chinatown > Short Cuts > Once Upon a Time in Hollywood > Collateral > Heat > Boyz n the Hood > L.A Confidential > Jackie Brown > Boogie Nights > Mulholland Drive > Swingers > Friday > To Live and Die in LA
SUBSTACK WRITERS ONLY: What do you like about writing on Substack?
We're either all going to be zonked out consumers like in the movie Wall-E (already 90% there) or return to a hybrid digital/material world where we build real life connections with people, create art and freely express ourselves without thinking about how it will be perceived by…
I love to eat but I find the whole online obsession with food a bit odd. It's almost as if we're living in a food dominant cultural zeitgeist.
The best way to learn a new skill is to imitate (not plagiarise) good work and practice until it becomes second nature. Works for pretty much any skill. Tom Cruise taught me this.
Writing tip: Read "The Elements of Style" by William Stunk and E.B White It's only 87 pages long and it will do more for your writing than most $500 writing courses out there.
