The SOR Policy Tax: 1. more workbooks, fewer real books 2. more skill practice, less writing 3. more low-level "trainings" less development 4. more $ on materials, less on anything else

True…

If your child hates “pounding and sounding” their way through whole group Fundations lessons they don’t need (still in grade 3!) you should be angry, just not at the teachers. This is what happens when we let people who don’t teach kids tell us how to teach kids.

Interesting to reflect on how mandating particular programmes or initiatives, can discourage confidence, engagement and implementation from experienced, knowledgeable leaders and teachers. Such a misuse of power and politics.

This book covers a lot of the thoughts I had about Sold a Story. This exposes the cracks in her argument. Every child is different and has different needs. Phonics is not always the answer for why a child isn't reading.
