Since we're talking about funding of absurd research by NIH and other federal agencies, the funded scientists: - watching flies fuck - giving rats massages - spending years digging into why jellyfish glow - tracking penguin poop from space - using horseshoe crab blood

Tangent (unrelated to peer review): Overly long papers more hurt authors. The authors' message is often lost. Authors of megapapers squeeze everything from the data, jealously guarding their pie. Their papers are often confusing with too many messages and end up in the trash.
"Paper is too long" complaints are so funny to me. Like is someone forcing you to read it? Just skip it if you hate it so much lol

At @ORNL's Asian American Heritage Month celebration, AASF’s @GKusakawa highlighted the historical challenges and lasting contributions of Asian Americans. We thank our hosts for welcoming AASF and working to support its Asian American scientists!
I had 1 published paper and a couple submitted when I went on the faculty job market and had several offers. Things are clearly different from 15 years ago, but even now, most of my post docs who successfully find jobs do not have 13 papers.
