Fascinating stuff. Light controlled reversible endocytosis.
Shine some UV light and a vesicle eats a condensate. Switch it off, and it releases it. Here is how this works (Adv Sci) doi.org/10.1002/advs.2… With the great coauthors @agumangia M.Aleksanyan @macasiri @TsuWangSun & R.Lipowsky @MpiciPotsdam @PotsdamScience read more 👇(1/4)

I am delighted to present our work at the @BiophysicalSoc meeting #bps2024. Drop by if you’d like to know about how motors drive lipid membranes out of equilibrium.

Exciting stuff for DNA based super resolution microscopy.

Thrilled to see our recent article being top 25% of research outputs. So proud of our hard work unrevealing how synthetic rotary motors perform deformations in lipid membranes.@FeringaLab @SchwilleLab @yusuf_qutbuddin Check it out in Advanced Materials!onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.10…

Elated to share our paper where we observe how synthetic rotary motors interact within lipid membranes. @AinoaGuinartP @FeringaLab @biomolmacs Light‐Activated Synthetic Rotary Motors in Lipid Membranes Induce Shape Changes Through Membrane Expansion onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.10…
I am happy to share our preprint on the effect of synthetic rotary motors in lipid membranes. We observe major shape transitions upon light exposure which can be explained by expansion in the membrane and the entire system being driven out of equilibrium. ift.tt/iZGPqHD

The term "Basic Science" is very widely used to describe almost any kind of research. How about "Not useful now or in the future but super interesting nevertheless and you do it just because you're curious and for the sake of beauty and fun Science"?
For some reason this result strikes me as relevant for recent discussion about limitations of particle ‘standard model’. Sometimes nature isn’t beautiful and that’s just all there is. @MarkusDeserno
