The incredible thing about the post is how, in reality, it is the exact opposite
In 1850, about half the mammal biomass was wild animals and the other half was us and the ones we've domesticated. Now it's 95% us and our favored mammals.
This is why politicians lie to voters. It’s because voters can’t handle the truth and prefer being lied to.
The fundamental problem: 58% of voters want public spending maintained or increased. 67% want taxes to stay at their current level or be cut. In reality, it’s a binary choice. Taxes go up, or spending is cut. That’s it.
That’s probably one of the most amazing charts about the US ever. How did it happen?
It is TWICE as expensive to install a megawatt of nuclear reactor on US soil than it is to put a megawatt of nuclear power into a US Aircraft Carrier. Why? The US Navy doesn't have to go through the NRC.
Honestly, the US Navy should just become America's nuclear power provider. US Navy Cost: $2 billion for 2 x 400 MW reactors in Ford-class aircraft carrier NuScale: $10 bn for 500 MW reactor Westinghouse: ~$8 bn for 1000MW reactor
The US Navy has managed a total of 273 nuclear reactors, 6200 reactor-years, over 177 million miles, averaging 4 new reactors per year over 70 years. They have done this with a perfect safety record. Zero accidents. Zero injuries, zero deaths, zero environmental pollution.
The view that the US has stopped producing nuclear reactors is actually pretty inaccurate. Over the last decade the US Navy has commissioned 1-2 new nuclear reactors per year. They currently operate 100 reactors, more than any other org on the planet.
Fun fact: GPT-2 was released the same year as Stranger Things season 3...... And season 5 isn't even out yet.
