Short: #CAP_theorem does exist, and we can not fool ourselves. TLDR: I recently talked with 3 VC-backed startup funders of Web3 startups (two series A and one Series B) and asked about the #curse_of_3. Surprisingly, all 3 so-called technical funders answered me ... 1/3

I don't know what the 3 stands for in Web3. Is it an average request latency of 3 hours, or an uptime of 3%, or a throughput of 3 requests per second?



"We know these issues and are working to build the technology to solve them." I asked them what do you want to do with #CAP_theorem. Two of them hadn't heard it, and one didn't believe it🤯. (I would trust the first two more than the third one) ... 2/3


Can we sacrifice partition tolerance? If our system has no partition tolerance, it cannot run over a network. In other words, it needs to be a single process operating locally. CA systems don't exist in a distributed system. #microservices #cap_theorem


Which is right, AP or CP? Well, the reality is it depends. AP systems scale more easily are simpler to build. CP systems require more work in supporting distributed consistency. Without knowing the context, we cannot know the right thing to do. #microservices #cap_theorem
