it was 1988-the National Open in Chicage where I met GM Mikhail Tal. In the bar of the hotel - I asked for an autograph. He signed a book I was holding. The only thing he said afterwards was 'thank you much’ and what is your name. he repeated my name & smiled. #Chessmemories

#Chessmemories - 1st time I ever heard the name Bobby Fischer was in the back seat of my dad’s car Aug 8, 1972. it was my B-day. My dad was complaining how bad Nixon & Fischer’s behavior was and how they deserved each other!! I knew of Nixon, but I had never heard of Fischer.

When I was a child, there were a lot of newspapers which would print a little chess problem in the puzzles section next to crosswords. I used to cut them out and collected them in a scrapbook. #chess #chessmemories

#Chessmemories anyone old enough remember when @Kasparov63 was playing Karpov for the world chess championship in 1987? I stayed up all night for the New York Times to report who won. There was no Internet - a loss for @Kasparov63 for me as a fan meant the “end of the world”

The video youtu.be/KYuYqEbU5kY?si… brought back memories of my own chess competitions. The dedication and passion of these young players are truly commendable. #ChessMemories

I come from the old school. In my youth, I followed Bobby Fischer, today I follow @GMHikaru with great interest. Chess unlike team sports allows us to hone in on the mind and personality of a player. Thats the intrinsic beauty of chess as a game!! #Chessmemories #Chess

The book that GM Tal signed was a copy of “Black is OK, by GM Andras Adorjan. It was the only thing I had in my possession at that moment. I still have the book and I often look at Tal’s signature on the inside cover. It was so generous of him to sign it. #Chessmemories

@MauriceAshley, what is your fav (Not at the board) chess story? Tell us something all things chess that maybe many chess players wouldn’t know!! I believe the one thing that young chess players are missing is the depth of chess history and it’s lore - #chessmemories

So I've played chess for Yorkshire but wasn't in the trial for rugby #LOL #chessmemories #crowtherrapedme
