Online #cameratrap #distancesampling workshop! Distance sampling theory for analysis of camera trap data does not require identification of individual animals to estimate abundance, making it applicable to a much larger set of species.

The first assumption of #DistanceSampling is "Objects on the line or point are detected with certainty" ie. detection is certain at zero distance. This assumption also applies to CTDS (In addition, other methods shared this assumption and modelled the imperfect detection in FOV)

In Spain we sampled 13 populations of mammals (Iberian hare, roe deer, fallow deer, red deer, mouflon and wild boar), and we considered as reference methods #DistanceSampling, #SCR, #SMR, #DriveCounts
