#CPD #JournalClub reading about #freewaterprotocol revealed that an oral hygiene program may have significant impacts on patient’s hydration/amount of fluid consumed/adherence with thickened fluids/satisfaction with thickened vs thin fluids..love to see #mouthcare being promoted!
Please to see #oralhealth included in the #nhslongtermplan and the importance of #mouthcare for those who need help
I’ve been trying to collect just such evidence in acute #stroke and general med populations for years attempting to evaluate not only aspiration pneumonia rates but also fluid intake, dehydration, UTI and constipation #freewaterprotocol vs thickened liquids with @swallowneurolab
Excited and honoured to have been awarded a @TheStrokeAssoc Postdoctoral Clinical Academic Fellowship to investigate the feasibility of implementing the #FreeWaterProtocol in Acute #Stroke Unit setting. Looking forward to this next chapter in my @ClinAcSLT journey! @RCSLTResearch
I would be interested to know other SLT's experience of free water protocol with stroke patients... how was this to implement... were the benefits clear? #freewaterprotocol #WeSpeechies #RCSLT
New systematic review by @AnnaGillman et al. bit.ly/2gwtx2n #dysphagia #speechpathology #freewaterprotocol
Think before thickening. Re-think and review. Consider #freewaterprotocol

A clean mouth gives us so many more options for #dysphagia management such as #freewaterprotocol. Thank you @WalsheMargaret #oralhealth
Oral hygiene was where my interest in clinically based research started so am absolute pleasure to hear @WalsheMargaret presenting a fantastic overview of the research and its ongoing importance to limiting aspiration based illness. #DRS2023 #MouthcareMatters
“The most promising statistically significant intervention to prevent aspiration pneumonia in adults after brain injury in a hospital setting was twice daily oral cleaning in combination with the free water protocol.” #freewaterprotocol #dysphagia @strokefdn #OralHealth
