For #FrescoFriday, a bit of a puzzle. This fresco from the House of Jason in #Pompeii is listed as Pan playing the syrinx, accompanied by a 'nymph' on a lyre. Why does Pan have human legs? He also carries a thyrsus, which is more common for a satyr or Dionysus. Also ... 1/ 📸 me

In the early 60s, a small villa was excavated in Stabia, the Villa Carmiano. Its triclinium was painted with unique frescoes, including this one below which may depict Ceres and Bacchus. But perhaps instead Thetis and Achilles? #FrescoFriday Archaeological Museum of Stabia 📸 me
